According to Aryan Society News Agency, after the Israeli airstrike on Evin Prison caused severe damage to the prison’s infrastructure, a large number of political and security prisoners were transferred to Qarchak Varamin Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, and Qezelhesar Karaj Prison. These transfers were sudden, without accurate notification, and disregarded basic prisoner rights.
Based on received information, these prisoners were housed in critical conditions without differentiation of crime type and without sufficient access to basic services. Many female political prisoners, after transfer to Qarchak, were first moved to unsanitary wards and then to halls lacking equipment. Men also face severe overcrowding in cells and decreased hygiene levels.
Reports indicate that the sanitary conditions in these prisons are severely alarming. Only a few toilets for dozens of people, lack of proper ventilation, and the presence of insects and pests threaten prisoners’ health. Similar conditions have been reported in Greater Tehran Prison, increasing the risk of infectious disease outbreaks.
Nutrition and access to clean water are other challenges. In Qarchak Prison, tap water is undrinkable, and the food provided is low quality and insufficient in quantity. In Greater Tehran Prison, food shortages and disrupted meal distribution have caused dissatisfaction and physical problems.
Access to medical services has almost stopped. Prisoners injured during the attack or suffering from chronic illnesses have received no treatment so far. In Qarchak, there is no medical care for female prisoners, and in Greater Tehran, these services are very limited.
Prisoners’ communication with their families has also been severely restricted. Many political prisoners, especially in Qarchak and Qezelhesar, have no phone access or can only make brief calls using faulty devices. Families complain about the lack of any information and worry about their loved ones’ conditions.
Families of prisoners have also warned about the detainees’ dire conditions on social media. Some have stated that prisoners’ belongings remain in Evin, and elderly inmates endure harsher conditions. Several prisoners are still held in solitary confinement and have had only one brief call.
