Collective statement of Christian converts and prisoners of conscience in support of the recent protests
At the same time as the nationwide gatherings in Iran and other parts of the world against the Islamic Republic, which began with the death of Mahsa Amini, various domestic and foreign associations and institutions expressed solidarity with this nationwide uprising.
Christian converts and prisoners of conscience are citizens who are deprived of basic citizenship rights due to their beliefs and are imprisoned for years on various political charges or forced to leave their homeland.
A group of Christian converts expressed their solidarity with the recent protests in a statement while declaring their disgust with the Islamic Republic.
In this statement, which has been signed by more than 50 former prisoners of conscience and Christian converts, the right to freedom of dress and belief and the right to protest against the oppressive government of the Islamic Republic has been emphasized.
In a part of this statement, it is stated: “We, prisoners of conscience and Christian converts who have tasted the pain and suffering caused by the oppression of the Islamic Republic for years, declare our support in the company of the freedom movement of the people of Iran and in sync with our compatriots.”
In the continuation of this statement, while condemning the violence against the protesters, it is stated: “We, as a part of the Iranian society, condemn any suppression of the protesters by the Islamic Republic and demand an end to the use of violence against the defenseless protesters in the cities of Iran. which uses every opportunity to violate the citizenship rights of its citizens, does not have the competence to survive.”
In this statement, it is also emphasized that the Christian converts will not stop until their rights are fulfilled along with the rest of the society.
