Afghans go through difficult and dangerous routes through Iran to Turkey, and then go to Greece and other European Union countries. But after a few months of Taliban rule, the situation of undocumented migrants in Turkey has become worse than before.
Recently, on Sunday, Turkey deported 592 Afghan refugees from Istanbul and Ankara airports to Kabul with three charter planes. Tawfik Ahmad Barakzai is one of the young Afghans who was among these emigrants deported to Afghanistan.
Tawfiq Ahmed narrates the violent encounter and torture in Turkey and says that they were kept in a camp for deportation where they were not even given enough food.
Forced deportation of undocumented asylum seekers in Turkey
Barkzai told Deutsche Welle: “They used to stand up and say, ‘Do you have a degree (Kymlik)?’ When someone didn’t have a certificate, they slapped him and arrested him.”
Tawfiq Ahmad adds that he lived in Turkey for four years to reach one of the European countries, but was finally arrested by the Turkish police and deported to Kabul by charter plane. He claims that the Taliban have asked Turkey to send the young people who fled to this country back to Afghanistan.
He adds that after arriving in Kabul, he was also mistreated by the Taliban and now he is under severe mental and emotional pressure.
Activists supporting the rights of immigrants in Turkey are concerned about the situation of Afghans in this country and say that the detention and deportation of immigrants has intensified in an unprecedented manner after the signing of an agreement between the Taliban and the Turkish government.
Ali Hekmat, one of the immigrants’ rights activists in Turkey, told Mohajer News: “This year, there have been too many deportees.” That is, from the 27th of January of this year, according to the agreement signed by the Turkish government with the Taliban, the deportations started, but these deportations are different from the previous deportations, and most of the immigrants, especially in the cities of Istanbul and Ankara, even from the room They can’t go out.”
But the Taliban’s foreign ministry is unaware of the signing of such an agreement.
These immigrants’ rights activists say that although the Turkish government has not recently released new statistics on the number of Afghan immigrants, based on the statistics published by the Turkish government a few months ago, there are currently 120,000 Afghan immigrants with legal and registered documents and 180,000 Afghan immigrants live illegally and without documents in different cities of Turkey.

This activist who defends the rights of immigrants adds that since a few years ago, the request for asylum is related to the Turkish Immigration Department and this department has several representatives in each city.
Non-registration of single Afghan men
Ali Hekmat adds that single Afghan men are not registered by this department: “After the recent events in Afghanistan, the Turkish government does not register single Afghan men. When they arrive in Turkey, until they are in this country, they live completely illegally and without documents and cannot use any government services.
These undocumented Afghans do not have access to health services and education, they are not allowed to travel from one city to another, and whenever they are arrested, they are immediately deported.
This migrant rights activist considers the holding of elections in Turkey to be one of the reasons for the deportation of these migrants. Turkish elections are scheduled to be held next year. Currently, nearly four million Syrian immigrants and about 300,000 Afghan immigrants live in Turkey.
Therefore, the media opposing the government have put pressure on the government on the eve of the elections, and the opposition parties have focused more on illegal immigrants in their election slogans.
Turkey-Greece border
