Rescue of refugees – Rescue of about 1500 refugees in the Mediterranean Sea

Aryan Community News Agency – Hundreds of migrants who were at risk of drowning in the Mediterranean Sea were rescued. These asylum seekers were trying to reach the territory of the European Union.

Aid organizations say they have managed to pull about 1,500 migrants out of the water in the Mediterranean Sea. These migrants are on rescue ships to be disembarked at a safe port.

The ship known as “Gio Barents”, which is managed by Doctors Without Borders, is carrying 659 people. There are 387 people on the Ocean Viking ship, which belongs to the “SOS Mediterranean” organization. There are 438 rescued migrants on the “Seawatch 3” ship, which belongs to the “Seawatch” organization.

Seawatch organization has said that the Italian authorities have given them permission to drop anchor in the port of Taranto, in the south of this country.

The organization wrote on its Twitter page: “Relief on the one hand and discouragement on the other because it will take almost two days to get there. “Unnecessarily more time for the ship’s passengers to endure in the heat.”

In recent weeks, thousands of migrants have arrived on the Italian islands of Lampedusa and Sicily. Most of these migrants have started their dangerous sea journey by substandard boats or vulnerable fishing vessels. Many of these migrants are rescued from the sea with the help of non-governmental aid organizations or the Italian Coast Guard.

The Italian Ministry of Interior has said that in the last six months of this year, nearly 39,000 migrants have entered Italy by sea. This figure reached 27,771 people at the same time last year. In less than seven months of 2020, nearly 13 thousand people had reached Italy.
